Mom: Non-chan
Daughter: Nene-chan (4-year-old girl)
This time, I was asked to write a collection of Besty's results, so I will do so.
First, I would like to talk about the meridians we have taken so far, and then look back on our efforts so far.
Until I discovered Home English
I've always loved English, and if I have children in the future,"I definitely want to raise my child to be able to speak English!!"That was also my dream.
We were persuaded by a salesperson from an English conversation school who happened to come by, and we started the English conversation school when Nene was 18 months old.
At first, there were only a few rooms for parents and children, so I had a lot of fun going to the nursery. Gradually, when I returned to work and my daughter started going to nursery school, she embraced the baptism of nursery school wholeheartedly, and became a passionate shamisen fan.
I took a break from English conversation classes for about three months, and resumed once I had gotten used to work, but then the coronavirus pandemic arrived.
Because of this, I was only able to attend the English conversation class for less than a year out of the two years I was enrolled.
Start DWE
At that time, Nene was already three and a half years old. I thought that DNE might be a better option after all, and so I completely missed out on her golden years, but she enjoyed her English conversation classes and loved watching English DVDs.
I was wondering if there was something I could do at home rather than attending an English conversation class due to my schedule, and this was the perfect material for me.
Nene cried because she didn't want to quit the classes, but rather than being unable to attend most of the time, she said, "I can study English at home with my mom all the time. It's fun because Mickey and other characters talk to me." So, although it was a late start, she decided to start DWE!
I bought it because my dad suggested I should just go for it and buy the full set.
I asked my mother-in-law, "What's the point of making you learn English when you can barely speak Japanese yet?"
Even my dad said to me, "Oh, come on! Why do I have to watch English? I hate it, so you guys should just do it yourselves!!"
Still, I can't quit DWE...
Far from quitting, the loan remains...
The strategy we reluctantly decided on was to play Mickey Mate while my dad was showing his variety show.
Although DWE started with this flowing method, Nene was delighted, saying, "There are lots of English DVDs! There are also lots of cards and toys."
Every day, he started off with a fun play-along and then started looking at the SP in all different colors.
Soon after, English words started coming out one after another.
Gradually, Play Along starts saying, "This is a baby! Nene-chan's a big sister now, isn't she?" and stops looking at it.
I was wondering what to do, but I decided to take off the light blue cap and try to make her aware of the system, and my daughter, who had been using TAC repeatedly since the beginning, passed without a hitch.
We decided to join Blue. Blue also plays cards almost every day, and we read the book together, deciding roles. He had so much fun that he memorized the entire Blue book!
It was about 2-3 months after this. At the same time, I was surprised to see him start saying two-word sentences like "goofy's shoes!"
After that, we continued to work on obtaining our Blue CAPs, and spent time dancing and singing together to Nene's favorite colors, regardless of Let's Play, songs, or colors.
Christmas is almost over and New Year's is just around the corner (5th month since the start)
Nene.is driving a bike!!
Before we left, he suddenly said, "Whaaat?" in a really loud voice, and I was so surprised and happy that I almost cried.
Over the New Year holidays, I became very good at using the present continuous tense.
At the same time, he obtained the Blue CAP.
It was around this time that I wondered if we could talk more, so I took out my book and asked, "What are you doing ZIPPY?"
And then, what do you think?! He started speaking in a really interesting way, using blue sentence structures! I was so shocked and excited that I couldn't sleep.
Joining Bestie
And with this momentum, I definitely want to make him bilingual!!
As if to make that wish come true, Yume-chan's mom opened her Besty class.
Although it was a very difficult life, I joined with the feeling that if there was a course that I could use DWE as a base, I definitely wanted to take it.
However, this was the beginning of my ordeal. This ongoing process did not improve for another four months, and I entered the tacit period.
I was so anxious because I had been watching my favorite green SP so many times but no green appeared at all.Everything had been going so smoothly up until then, so I felt like I had been thrown into hell.
Changes in children
As I continued to take Besty classes,I realized that I wasn't getting enough input.,already
I concentrated on the green flowing water to the point that I really didn't want to hear it.
Gradually, while playing in the park, he would suddenly start to squeeze out "I can swing," and at exactly 10 months old, he began to use the green sentence structure.
At the same time, your sleep talking will be in English!!
It was the first time I had heard English from my daughter, who hadn't spoken a word of English for four long months.
It's been almost a year, and I still only speak blue. Around that time, there was a play-along show. I got to meet all the teachers I'd wanted to meet, and even though everyone else was wearing light blue or blue caps, I attended wearing a green cap. This event was praised as amazing by those around her, and it was from this point on that Nene's output was awakened!
Green syntax began to emerge in an overflowing way.
Just after one year, the output started coming out all at once, and I was able to make an internal camera and reach the level where I could talk about blue and green in my own words.
Future decisions!
DWE is now in its 1 year and 3 month mark, and we have seen many welcome changes, such as allowing YouTube and increasing the use of past tense and speaking at a faster pace.
Words from three Bestie instructors
"There are many things that Non-chan is able to do well. So don't rush, just go ahead and relax."
Whenever I was troubled, I always relied on these words and they helped me to persevere.
And above all, I'm so grateful to Nene-chan, who never gave up and is learning and speaking English with me♥️
Although we are still a long way from being bilingual, we will continue to work hard to achieve our dream of having our child become fully bilingual while he is in nursery school.
Message from Non-chan
(I also occasionally write the "Practical Tips" section of the blog "The Frontline of English at Home" ✨)
Nice to meet you✨
It's Non-chan ♡
Currently (January 2025), I am working hard at home learning English with my 4-year-old daughter, Nene, using DWE as a base.
I've always loved English, so I was determined to learn English conversation if I were blessed with a child.
When my daughter was 18 months old, I enrolled her in an English conversation class.
After two years, my daughter still can't speak a single word, and I'm convinced that it's impossible for her to master everyday conversation in a class that only takes place once a week.
I decided to start DWE, which I had always dreamed of, even though it was a late start at age 3 and a half❗️
I don't know how to proceed with purchasing the official full set😭
After browsing Instagram, I came across Yume-chan's mom's account✨
From there, Yume-chan's mom enrolled the first batch of Besties. The change in attitude and rapid progress was amazing🤣
I followed the advice and after just three months of DWE, I was able to output sentences♥️
I'm still working hard to become bilingual.
I hope to use what I've learned at Besty and my experiences to share my daily efforts with you all on my blog and Instagram, so please look forward to it🙇♀️
