This time, we will use the lyrics of "💿【34】The Wishing Song" featured in DWE Blue and the contents of the corresponding "📙BOOK3" as seeds to cultivate the seeds of learning "English at Home"📝🌱

1 Introduction of the venue

This song depicts a scene where someone asks, "Make a wish" before blowing out the candles on a birthday cake 🎂🕯️
If you blow out all the candles, your wish will come true - these magical lyrics will get children excited!

Actions such as "making a wish" and "blowing out candles" are standard birthday scenes in Japan, so the content is very familiar to children.
The song also has a relatively slow tempo and a simple melody, making it easy for even small children to naturally hum along.

If you listen to this song when a birthday is approaching or before celebrating someone's birthday, the words "Wish!" will come out naturally in the real world!

If you want to incorporate English into your home, we recommend hosting a birthday party for your stuffed animal, or making a cake out of Lego or paper and role-playing it!
If you pretend to blow out the candles and ask, "What do you wish for?", your English conversation will be even more fun!

In this way, by singing while linking it to real-life experiences and pretend play, English expressions will remain in children's minds as "meaningful words."

Example 3) Your wish will soon come true.

3 Column ~Seven grammar essentials that spread from birthday songs!~

This song is filled with various grammatical elements throughout birthday scenes such as "making a wish" and "blowing out the candles" 🎂✨

Let's take a look at these 7 grammar points:

✅ ① Imperative sentences: Tell them gently, "Please do this!"

structure: base form of verb + object + (other)
Example: Look at the candles on the cake.(Look at the candles on the cake!)

🔸The basic form of an imperative sentence is that the subject (you) is omitted and it begins with the infinitive form of the verb.
🔸This form is often used in everyday situations to give instructions or make requests.

✅ ② Present progressive tense: Expressing something that is happening right now

structure: subject + be + -ing verb
Example: They're burning brightly just for you.(They burn brightly for you)

🔸A form of “be + ing” that conveys “what is happening now.”
🔸Linking it to a visual scene makes it feel even more real🔥

✅ ③ Auxiliary verb “will”: gently conveying a premonition of the future

structure: subject + will + base form of verb
Example: Your wish will soon come true.(Your wish will come true soon.)

🔸Using "will" expresses "what will happen in the future."
🔸It can also be used to gently express predictions, hopes, and determination.💫

✅ ④ Infinitive (noun usage): Expressions that express something

structure: verb + to + base form of verb
Example: Wish for something you want to have.(Wish for what you want)

🔸A usage in which "to do" acts like a noun, such as "to have."
🔸This is useful when you want to explain the details of "What?"✨

✅ ⑤ Relative pronouns (omitted): “who” and “which” disappear!?

structure: Noun + [which / that] + subject + verb (→can be omitted)
Example: Wish for something [which] you want to have.

🔸When a relative pronoun becomes the object of a sentence, it is often omitted.
🔸It is used like “something you want to have.”

✅ ⑥ Conditional if clause: if ~, then ~

structure: If + subject + verb, subject + will + base form of verb
Example: If you blow the candle out, your wish will soon come true.

🔸A sentence that conveys a realistic condition: "If ~, ~ will happen."
🔸It appears naturally in the song🎵

✅ ⑦ Past subjunctive: Imagine something different from the present and communicate it

structure: If + subject + past tense, subject + would + base form of verb
Example: If I had a magic wand, I would grant your wish.
If I had a magic wand, I would make your wish come true

🔸This expression is used when talking about a hypothesis that differs from reality.
🔸It's a perfect expression for a dream or imaginary scene🌠

English songs are full of this kind of grammar 🎶
But, rather than "memorizing the rules" at first, Besty's way is to start by "humming the whole thing" 🌱

It is in the midst of fun that the seeds of English acquisition grow.

4 Secrets of Practice

In the secrets of practice, Yume Mama, Besty instructors, and blog staff will share their practical methods for "home English"❣️

A grammar treasure trove! The quiet birthday song is full of hints for how to say "Happy Birthday" to someone.🎂✨(Yume Mama)

To be honest, this song that we learn with Blue is not the kind of song that you can sing with your kids, so it's easy to overlook it.
But one day, I took a closer look at the lyrics and was surprised to see that they were filled with so much grammar!!

I thought, "Wow, what a waste!"

✅ I'm moved by the kindness of "They're burning brightly just for you."

First, the first phrase that comes up is the present tense “They’re burning”🌟
What's more, the line that follows, "brightly just for you," sounds so foreign, it really hits home...🥹💓
Last year on my birthday, it was so wonderful that I memorized this phrase and called out to Yume while looking at the candles.
Then Yume looked really happy ✨

I thought it would be great to use this kind phrase on such a special day.

✅ “Make a wish.” “It will come true.” Sow seeds in imperative and future tense 🎁

The next two phrases are "Make a wish" and "It will come true."
I had the image of the future tense "will" being green, but it also appears in blue 😳👏
I thought it was a rare experience to hear imperative sentences and future tense in such a natural flow☺️
You can also use this as a greeting before the cake.

✅ "Something you want to" is super useful in everyday life! It's a big hit in my house 🥰

In fact, in this song, there is also a line that omits the relative pronoun (that), saying "something you want to~"!
I had the impression that relative pronouns were difficult, but this form makes them really easy to use.
This is what we use most often at home:

・Snack time → “Pick something you want to eat!”
・Days off → “Is there something you want to do today?”
・Before dinner → “Is there something you want to eat for dinner?”

Especially this "Something you want to eat" has become a standard phrase in our home 🐰✨

Once you get used to it, try changing "something" to "book" or "toy" and you'll be able to expand the range of things you can say to them.

When choosing a picture book...

“Pick some books you want to read!”
“Pick out some books you'd like to read!”

I'm calling out to them 📚💓

If you use the expressions that appear in DWE to replace the things you normally say in Japanese,

It brings you one step closer to the "2D input → 3D interaction" that is often discussed at Bestie's tea parties!
I would love for all moms to have this same feeling.

✅ This makes it easy to incorporate negative comments into if statements!

The last sentence is the if statement: “If you blow them out, your wish will come true.”

"if" is also difficult, so I couldn't really use it when speaking...
This format can also be used to warn of negative things.

“If you hit your head, it will hurt.”
“If you eat too much, your tummy will get hurt.”
(You can also link to SP9 🐘🐭)

This song is so short...

🌟 Present tense
🌟 Imperative sentence
🌟 Future tense
🌟 Relative pronouns (omitted)
🌟 If statement

...and it's a surprising treasure trove of grammar 🥹✨

It's a song that's often overlooked, but please try incorporating it as a "seed for encouragement"🎂🎶
