Step Up Special Issue Part 1 | Beyond "fruit": 4 steps to budding words

~Don't stop at apple and banana! Besty's way of spreading words~

"I've learned apple, banana, grape... but how do I develop it further?"

We will answer the voices of such home English moms from Bestie's perspective✨

Fruits are often the first words to learn, but it would be a shame to stop there!

The moment your right brain feels "delicious!", your left brain is more likely to pick up on the words..

Based on Besty's philosophy, we will introduce four steps to help you naturally expand your English vocabulary from "fruit."

STEP 1 | First, vocabulary: Linking fruits with their names

Input words such as "apple," "banana," and "orange" using cards, picture books, and real objects.

The goal here is to connect the sense of "I've seen it," "I've eaten it," and "I know it!" with English.

🌱Bestie's Points🌱
Input of real objects in English is more likely to remain in a child's right brain as an "image memory"!

By learning through the "senses" before the "words," your later output will be more natural.

However, if you stop at STEP 1, you may end up just learning words! Make sure to "listen to sentences."

STEP 2 | Playing with Sound: Connecting "Senses and Words" with Onomatopoeia

Here, try to be aware of the sounds you make when eating and the sounds associated with fruit.

・apple → Crunch!

・grape → Squish!

・banana → Peel!

When you actually eat the food and comment on it live, saying "Crunch! So crunchy!", the sensation begins to be put into words.

🌱Bestie's Points🌱
Onomatopoeia is the gateway to right-brained expression.

By becoming familiar with English through sounds that feel "fun" and "interesting," children will develop the "ability to produce words."

STEP 3 | Phrasing: Create short sentences that you'll want to say out loud

Try imitating simple phrases while eating or playing.

・I like bananas.

・I'm eating an apple.

・This is so juicy!

Using lines from songs or your favorite picture books is a great way to naturally get the emotions flowing!

🌱Bestie's Points🌱
“Being able to use it in your own words will lead to a successful experience of getting your point across.

The seeds of language will begin to emerge when mom says, "It's delicious! I like this apple!" and shows it to her.

STEP 4 | Developing a conversation: Creating moments that make children want to share their experiences during play

Create situations that make your child want to speak in English through pretend play and multiple choice situations.

・Do you want a strawberry or a peach?

・Let's make a fruit salad!

・Yummy! What's your favorite fruit?

🌱Bestie's Points🌱
Words grow the moment you think, "I want to communicate."

When children are able to express their feelings and hopes through pretend play, their English skills develop from "knowledge" to "conversation."

Summary | Fruit is the first step in cultivating the seeds of English language

Fruit words are the first step in learning English.

However, by connecting it to senses, sounds, play, and interaction, "apple" transforms from "just one word" into "a tool that expands the world."

"I learned fruit" and then...

Why not create situations where parents and children feel like speaking in English?
